About IGJA
TITLES/PICS

Work consists of five composit sculptures and five photographs.
Brief description of this work: Signs or rather more sculptural objects normally used by Egyptian guest workers to signal their specific professions on the informal labor market in Benghazi, Libya. Represented in the collection: Painter, Electrician, Mason, Plumber and Demolition service. Mostly displaying the tools themselves, similar to the guild-sign in old Europe, assembles the objects. Installed in a modern museum context, the respective works take on attributes from early modernist sculpture like e.g. Arte Po- vera and suggest another reading of the trademark, as signatures of the artist, as an item in the museum collection or possible both if seen in relation to a group show. In addition, Trademarks include images displaying the respective objects, previous owners and environment before their acquisition.
