Work consists 9 hours interval road movie, fifty objects, carousel slide show and a printed guide.
Project was incorporated into the Transkultura program of the Bunkier Sztuki CCA in Krakow. The program reflect in short issues of political, national and economical transitions in Europe in the context of the enlargement of the European Union. Figure and Ground addressed concerns in the form of a journey over land, tracing the outer borders of the European Union, from Melilla to Murmansk, via the Middle-East.

Objects presented for sale along the road reflect centuries of regional interrelations. A majority of these purchased collectibles were edible goods. On request, back in Poland, cooks and nutrition experts commented on these items, which was then presented together with teh same dry and deteriorated objects in the exhibition. Thus, allowing a reading of the objects by themselves, with a further suggested notice to historical trade and discoveries, migrations and the underlying arcane foreign policies.

Shelves constructed to display objects were inspired by Kazimir Malevich’s Architektons.
