Figure and Ground Revisited (2010)
Manifesta 8 Eventos Paralelos, Murcia, Spain
Video 14’ shown in the restaurant by the gas station on the way between main venues of the Manifesta 8 exhibition, between Murcia and Cartagena. The visitors were seated in the restaurant and waiter offered them drink and food free of charge. The visitors could enjoy the hospitality. If they agreed to slow down and actually do so, have a snack or drink on the house, the waiter would come again (and only then) to give the visitor(s) a table screen with video.
Now the visitors (accepting the hospitality) could watch the whole project development from the past 5 years up to now, including experiencing themselves sitting in the restaurant as a finalization of this work in progress.
5 years ago this project began as Transkultura: Akt 1 (2006) and Figure and Ground (2007)
This last phase of the project may be summarised as a journey; revisiting a random strawberry seller who sold us strawberries in Morroco in 2006. We located Mustafa Laakaoui again and personally handed him over money generated by the sale of (his) photo with a box of dried up strawberries, among others, in an auction we organised as part of the exhibition back in 2007 in Crakow, Poland.
